Nepathya performs in Dharan after almost 15 years

Nepal’s premier folk rock band, Nepathya performed their second show of their on-going Nepal tour to the music enthusiast of Dharan on Friday evening. 

Dharan, a town once known as the Gorkha recruitment center for the British Army, is today known as a town of BPKIHS, a medical institute. 

Referring to the BP Koirala Institute of Health science Amrit said, “The place which was set to recruit Gorkha soldiers by the British Army is now converted into a medical school which produces life-saving doctors.” He further connected by saying, “One is a symbol of violence and the other is a symbol of peace.”

Dharan show was jointly organized by a student body within BPKIHS and MC coffee hour a local coffee joint.

The concert started with the band performing their first song - Aganai Bhari during which Nepathya’s 25-year journey was shown in pictures on the projection screen. 

Noted poet Dinesh Adhikari was also present throughout the show. This was his first outing after his major hip replacement surgery few months back. With consent from his doctor, he attended the show and stood for two hours enjoying the show. “We artists have a social responsibility too. I found Amrit and Nepathya fulfilling this responsibility to the utmost.” He said. “It is amazing to see how the band is entertaining the music lovers of all age.” 

The show continued with Nepathya’s classic hits Chekyo Chekyo, Jomsome Bazaar, Resham to Mai Mari Jaunla along with their recent releases Koshi ko Paani and Sirfula. Whatever song the band would sing, the audience sang along.

Hile based tea master Morris Orchard who had traveled down to see the concert expressed, “Wow ! Amazing. My inner Nepali grew many a folds….”

Among the audience, there were sizable number of students and faculty family of BPKIHS. 

“Our batch had dreamt of hosting Nepathya in Dharan for the last 5 years. But it did not materialize during our time in the institute as students. Finally, it has been made possible with our student body, Parikrama’s collaboration with Dharan based MC Coffee House.” Said Dr. Swotantra Gautam. “I am now a passed-out student and fortunately working at BPKIHS. Medical doctors from our batch posted as far as Rolpa, Gorkha, Nawalparasi and Bara came to see this dream of ours realize in Dharan.” He added.

Hinting at the medical students during the concert Amrit said, “You have chosen to study medicine to serve too and not only earn. I hope you will remember this after you walk out of the institute too.”

The next stop of the tour will be Butwal, where the show will be locally hosted by Yes Nepal.

Butwal show is scheduled for 26th November at Butwal Stadium (Anfa Technical Institute).

After Dharan, the show will now travel west and perform in Butwal on 26th Nov before concluding in Dhangadhi on the 29th of November.
